Position Overview

We are looking for a Technical Artist specialized in VFX and Shaders to join our team on a part-time basis. Your role will be central in shaping the game’s look and feel — creating visual effects, custom shaders, and optimizing them for performance across platforms. You’ll work closely with artists and programmers to ensure every scene feels dynamic, immersive, and visually consistent with Floaty’s style.

Responsibilities

  1. Design and implement high-quality visual effects (VFX) such as explosions, magic, environment effects, and UI effects.
  2. Develop and optimize custom shaders for characters, environments, and special effects.
  3. Ensure VFX and shaders run efficiently on both mobile and console platforms.
  4. Collaborate with the art and programming teams to integrate effects seamlessly into gameplay.
  5. Troubleshoot rendering and shader-related issues.
  6. Maintain consistency in artistic vision while pushing technical boundaries.
  7. Provide guidance on best practices for performance and visual quality.

Requirements

  1. Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Technical Artist focusing on VFX/shaders.
  2. Strong proficiency in Unity’s VFX Graph, Shader Graph, and/or HLSL.
  3. Portfolio demonstrating strong VFX and shader work.
  4. Solid understanding of rendering pipelines, optimization, and performance profiling.
  5. Experience with particle systems, lighting, and post-processing effects.
  6. Ability to collaborate effectively across art and engineering teams.
  7. Passion for games and a strong eye for detail in visual storytelling.
